Local West Point Grad & Combat Veteran Becomes Small Business Owner, Now Running for Congress

January 11, 2018

Canton, Texas--A local hero, Sam Deen, spent 10 years away from home after September 11, 2001 to pursue service to the country by becoming a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and serving as a Ranger-qualified Infantry Platoon Leader in the infamous Korengal Valley of Afghanistan.

Sam Deen returned home and put away the uniform of the Army in exchange for the uniform and gear of a fire fighter. But, that form of service ended when Sam and his former high school sweetheart and now wife, Ashley from Grand Saline, decided to take on the challenge of local small business owners. Sam and Ashley have helped people transform their lives through the local Crossfit gyms they own in Van Zandt County.

But, service to the country has always been key to Sam Deen’s core values. “Even as an Eagle Scout growing up in Canton, Texas, I knew that my life was going to continue to be marked by selfless leadership. This was true of my time in the Army. And, in the midst of so much disfunction in Washington, I am being called to be a true representative of the 5th Congressional District in Texas.”

Sam Deen officially filed papers with the Federal Elections Commission on Monday, November 20th to become a Republican candidate for the 5th Congressional District. People can learn more about Sam and his mission to be a true representative of the district at: www.samdeen.com/.
