Ima Jo Matthews (1926-2016)

Services for Ima Jo Matthews, 90, of Grand Saline, were scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at Main Street Baptist Church with David Martin officiating under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.
Interment was held in Union Chapel Cemetery, Van.
Mrs. Matthews passed away November 21, at her home in Grand Saline. She was born June 10, 1926, in Seminole, OK to Archie Gustus and Annie Viola Hale Carter. She spent her early years in Van before moving to Grand Saline in 1957. She was a member of Main Street Baptist Church for 59 years and had taught their Gleaners Sunday School Class. Mrs. Matthews was a member of the Postmasters Association and had been a US Postmaster in Fruitvale.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jarrell Matthews; daughter, Gayle Lynn Elmore; brother, G.L. Carter; sister, Patsy Ruth Kaster; and son-in-law, Michael Ramos.
Survivors include her son, Rick Navarro and wife Vija of Libertyville, IL; daughter, Wendy Jo Matthews of Plano; brother, Dewayn Carter and wife Nell of Wills Point; four grandchildren, Mandy Jo Roper, Marnie Navarro, Richard Carter Navarro and Jessica Lynne Steffen; six great-grandchildren, Nathan Roper, Natalie Jo Roper, Nadia Roper, David Steffen, Elizabeth Steffen and Olivia Wadley; and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Rick Navarro, Rick Navarro Jr., David Steffen, Jay Roper, Nathan Roper and David Martin.
Honorary Pallbearers were the Main Street Baptist Church Gleaners SS Class.
Memorials may be made to the Grand Saline Public Library.

The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to services at the church.
